Starknet has published an official incident report covering the technical disruption on January 5, 2026. During the event, block production was halted, and the team confirmed that roughly 18 minutes of network activity were later reverted. According to the timeline, activity between 09:24 and 09:42 UTC was dropped, and from 09:42 to 14:17 UTC the network was unavailable. Sequencing was intentionally paused to investigate safely and execute recovery actions. The root cause was a bug in the blockifier (the sequencer’s execution component) that, in a rare edge-case involving nested calls and reverts, could lead to incorrect transaction execution. The team emphasized that the proving layer acted as a safeguard, preventing the inconsistency from reaching Ethereum finality.
